2D & 3D Mapping for Planning

2D & 3D drone mapping gives construction teams a fast, accurate way to capture what is on site and turn it into planning-grade outputs. Using photogrammetry, which is the processing overlapping aerial images, a single capture can generate 2D Ortho mosaic maps and detailed 3D models that improve visibility, accuracy, and decision-making across the project lifecycle. These datasets are widely used for site layout planning, earthworks tracking, access/laydown planning, and as-built comparisons—especially when you need a current snapshot for engineers, QS teams, and stakeholders without repeated site walks.

What this service delivers (planning-ready outputs):

  • 2D Ortho mosaic Maps: A high-resolution, measurable “true-top-down” map of the site that teams can use to mark up, measure, and coordinate planning decisions.

  • Point Clouds: A dense 3D representation of the site that can be referenced for as-built checks, clash-risk spotting, and design coordination.

  • Digital Surface Models (DSM): An elevation model that shows terrain + objects (stockpiles, berms, structures) for grading insight, drainage planning, and volumetrics (cut/fill and stockpile quantities).

  • CAD/BIM Integration: Outputs can be exported into common formats used by CAD/BIM teams to support smarter planning and coordination workflows.

Drone mapping is also increasingly connected to collaborative construction platforms—so teams can compare design intent against reality capture and keep planning aligned across disciplines.

Why we use the DJI Matrice 4T for this in construction:
The Matrice 4T is a multi-sensor platform that supports consistent, repeatable capture—useful for ongoing planning datasets across phases. It supports RTK-level positioning and publishes RTK GNSS accuracy values, helping improve alignment and repeatability between capture dates. It also offers long endurance, up to 49 minutes flight time3, enabling larger areas to be captured efficiently on active sites.

The bottom line: Ortho mosaics, point clouds, and DSMs give you a measurable digital view of the site that plugs into planning and coordination workflows—reducing rework, improving accuracy on quantities and layout decisions, and keeping the full project team on the same page.
